Our Work with the Special Needs Community

We work closely with The Special Needs community by providing arts education, performance platforms and a voice for the community. Both Chandran and Amy are graduates of the ‘Working and Facilitating the Learning of Children with Special Needs in the Arts’ Course run by the Social Service Institute. Since 2014, they have developed programmes, trained students and staged musicals for Special Education Schools such as the Tanglin School (member of ASPM), THK EIPIC Centre (pre-schoolers), St Andrew’s Autism School and Pathlight School.

Very Special Theatrics

An inclusive performing company

Established in conjunction with Very Special Arts Singapore in January 2017, Very Special Theatrics unites artists of all backgrounds and abilities together onstage to tell stories that everyone can enjoy. The cast has done festive performances at shopping malls, full-scale productions at venues such as Victoria Theatre, and has worked with guest artists such as Benjamin Kheng. Past collaborations include No Strings Attached from Australia; a theatre for artists with disabilities.

A voice for the community

Hosting & Participating in public conversations

Whether it’s hosting Special Needs events or discussing ways to encourage inclusivity in the performing arts space, Chandran and Amy are prominent voices of the arts sector within the Special Needs community. Highlights include hosting the Purple Parade multiple times and performing at the 2016 National Day Parade that featured special needs individuals.

Workshops & Programmes

or children and adults

We offer drama workshops and programmes with the support of the National Arts Council. These workshops are fully customisable to be part of school curriculum, as an extra-curricular activity or stand alone-workshops. A multi-sensorial approach is used to guide participants as they create their own stories and learn about voice projection and modulation, role play and characterisation, stage blocking, group work and staging a performance. The sessions culminate into a ‘Mini Showtime’ where participants perform their final product!

Theatre Productions

Drama productions & Musicals

ACT 3 Theatrics works with SPED schools and organisations to stage original theatre productions. From developing and creating the storyline to writing the script, participating students and their teachers are involved every step of the way under the guidance of ACT 3 Theatrics. Past productions include “Finding Harmony in M&M Land’ with the APSN Tanglin School and “Lights,Action!” with Grace Orchard School.
